UAF Asia & Pacific Rapid Response Grants: Who Can Apply and How
Short answer: Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights Asia and Pacific (UAF A&P) offers rapid-response grants of up to USD 5,000 for women and non-binary human rights defenders and organisations in Asia and the Pacific, including India. Applications are rolling. You start with an eligibility assessment, then apply online (ProtonMail required) for a Security and Well-being grant or a Resourcing Resilience grant. Selection is decided by UAF A&P and is not guaranteed.
Practical answers before you start
Who should apply: a women’s rights organisation, or a woman or non-binary human rights defender in Asia and the Pacific whose request is preferably channelled through such an organisation, facing a security or well-being crisis, or needing short, time-urgent support to resource resilience of women’s human rights activism using nonviolent tactics.
Who should skip this fund: cisgender males and cisgender male-led organisations or networks; individual requests with no organisational endorsement; requests for humanitarian crises or natural disasters; development aid or charity assistance; regular programmes; and regular operating budgets or bridge funding. Webs of Safety and Care grants that closed on 15 June 2025 are not this route.
Documents and setup to keep ready:
- A clear description of the urgent security, well-being or resilience need (not a routine annual programme plan)
- A free ProtonMail account (required to register on the UAF A&P application system)
- Organisational affiliation or endorsement details if you are applying as an individual
- Basic contact and banking details you will need only if a grant is approved and documents are signed (the public pages do not publish a full document checklist)
What happens after you apply: UAF A&P says acknowledgement is expected within 48–72 hours. After approval and signed documents, funds are described as arriving within about 10–15 working days. A final report is required after the grant is spent. For Resourcing Resilience, the proposed initiative must be implemented within 3 months of approval and completed within 6 months thereafter.

Is this the right kind of grant for your work?
This is not a general development, CSR or “project cycle” grant. UAF A&P frames these as rapid-response grants for security measures and well-being, and for resourcing the resilience of women’s human rights and human rights activism. If what you need is multi-year programme funding, staff salaries as bridge funding, or a routine annual budget top-up, this fund says it does not support those uses.
If your organisation is women- or non-binary-led and facing a time-urgent rights or safety need, read the Security and Well-being and Resourcing Resilience pages carefully and start with the eligibility assessment rather than drafting a long proposal first.
Eligibility checklist
- ☐ Applicant is a woman or non-binary human rights defender, or an organisation working on women’s and/or LBTQI human rights, in Asia and the Pacific
- ☐ Request is preferably channelled via a women’s rights organisation; if individual, you have organisational endorsement, community or network affiliation, or a UAF A&P advisor endorsement
- ☐ Need fits security and well-being during or immediately after crisis, or a time-urgent resilience initiative (not a regular programme)
- ☐ For Resourcing Resilience: you can implement within 3 months of approval and complete within 6 months thereafter
- ☐ You are not asking for humanitarian/natural-disaster response, development aid/charity assistance, regular operating costs or bridge funding
- ☐ You understand subsequent applications are considered case-by-case
FCRA note for Indian applicants
UAF A&P is an international or regional feminist fund disbursing USD. Its pages checked on 23 Oct 2026 do not state FCRA. Under Indian law, receiving foreign contribution is a separate question from being selected by a funder. See our FCRA registration and prior permission service if you need to understand where you stand, and keep your FCRA bank account arrangements in mind if you already hold registration. You can also check FCRA renewal status before you rely on an existing certificate.
Foreign grant: Indian NGOs normally need FCRA registration or prior permission (FCRA 2010) to receive these funds. General information only, not legal advice.
How to apply, step by step
- Read the Our Grants overview, the Security and well-being page and the Resourcing resilience page (all checked 23 Oct 2026).
- Complete the grants eligibility assessment.
- Create a free ProtonMail account if you do not already have one (required for the application system).
- Register at apply.uafanp.org using that ProtonMail address, confirm the account, then log in and apply for the matching grant type. Process notes for new applicants are on the new-applicant process page.
- If internet access is unreliable, download forms from the application forms page and email them from ProtonMail to grants@uafanp.org.
- Keep a copy of what you submitted. Expect acknowledgement within 48–72 hours according to the Our Grants page; do not treat that as a funding decision.
FAQs from the funder are listed on the RRG FAQ page. For writing a short, clear statement of need (without turning this into a routine project proposal), our NGO project proposal guide and project budget guide still help you stay concrete. Before you send anything, run through the grant application checklist.
Common mistakes
- Treating this like a regular programme or operating-budget grant — UAF A&P lists those as not supported.
- Applying as a cisgender male-led organisation or without the required endorsement for individual requests.
- Skipping the eligibility assessment and ProtonMail setup, then getting stuck at registration.
- Assuming selection solves FCRA for an Indian NGO — it does not.
- Confusing this open rapid-response route with the older Webs of Safety and Care window that closed on 15 June 2025.

Frequently asked questions
How much can you get from a UAF Asia & Pacific rapid-response grant?
UAF A&P states that grants are available up to USD 5,000, and that for Resourcing Resilience grants it “provides grants of up to USD $5,000 only.” Funding is decided by UAF A&P and is not guaranteed.
Is there a deadline for UAF Asia & Pacific rapid-response grants?
The UAF A&P Our Grants, Security and Well-being, and Resourcing Resilience pages checked on 23 Oct 2026 describe a year-round rapid-response application system with no fixed deadline stated. Treat it as rolling and confirm on the live pages before you apply.
Who can apply for UAF A&P rapid-response grants from India?
UAF A&P supports women and non-binary human rights defenders and organisations in Asia and the Pacific. Grants are preferably channelled via a women’s rights organisation. Individual requests need endorsement by an organisation, an established community or network affiliation, or a UAF A&P advisor. It does not support cisgender males or cisgender male-led organisations or networks.
Do Indian NGOs need FCRA to receive a UAF A&P grant?
UAF A&P pages checked on 23 Oct 2026 do not state FCRA. UAF A&P is an international or regional fund disbursing USD, so Indian recipients normally need FCRA registration or prior permission (FCRA 2010) to receive foreign contribution. General information only, not legal advice.
How do you apply for a UAF A&P Security or Resourcing Resilience grant?
Complete the eligibility assessment on the UAF A&P site, create a free ProtonMail account, register at apply.uafanp.org with that ProtonMail address, confirm the account, then log in and apply for a Security and Well-being Grant or a Resourcing Resilience Grant. If internet access is unreliable, download the forms from the application-forms page and email them from ProtonMail to grants@uafanp.org.
